As a IAEE Affiliate it organized two international conferences in Rome and three European conferences in Florence, Venice and Rome. Great events with a large attendance.

5th AIEE ENERGY SYMPOSIUM ON CURRENT AND FUTURE CHALLENGES TO ENERGY SECURITY – energy perspectives beyond COVID19 –

The 5th edition of the international conference “AIEE Energy Symposium – Current and Future Challenges to Energy Security” was organized with the support of the IAEE and the SDA Bocconi School of Management

6 plenary sessions and 20 parallel virtual sessions to address the main issues of energy security.

The conference in recent years has acquired an international prestige and has become an important annual appointment on the issues of energy security. The initiative, which was carried out despite the uncertainties generated by the impact and the effects of COVID-19, was organized as a virtual conference.
The decision to host a virtual event was considered an adequate and risk-free alternative to give the opportunity to speakers from all over the world, representatives of companies, national and international organizations, public and private institutions, universities and research centers to present their work, without having to face the difficulties deriving from the unpredictability of the evolution of the pandemic.
Two days of intense work where nearly 250 participants, from 20 countries, discussed the topic of energy security, with more than 100 presentations, to illustrate innovative solutions, addressing this key issue in the international context, with particular reference to the period of energy transition and the changing perspectives resulting from the pandemic.

The fourth edition of the international conference “AIEE Energy Symposium – Current and Future Challenges to Energy Security” was organized in Rome on 10-12 December, in collaboration with LUMSA University. Almost 200 participants, coming from 26 countries experts, researchers, teachers, managers of the main Italian and foreign energy companies met to discuss on the subject of energy security and explore new trends and challenges to find creative solutions, addressing this key issue in the international context, with particular reference to the role of traditional sources and renewable sources and the resulting effects on energy markets.
Following up on the success of the previous events, this three-day conference was a high level forum which provided a context to transform the energy landscape of our world.  It  provided a fresh look on the major forthcoming issues offering an excellent occasion to continue the dialogue and to share best practice and experience with delegates from all over the world.  At the center of the debate are the economic and technological aspects for the security of the world’s energy systems in the perspective of decarbonisation. A very broad concept that ranges from the availability of supplies of fossil fuels to the storage of electricity from photovoltaic and wind power. The event was organized in 6 plenary sessions and 22 parallel sessions with almost 100 presentations.

Nearly 200 participants, experts coming from 20 countries, researchers, professors, managers of the main Italian and foreign energy companies, met to discuss energy security. The event was organized in 5 plenary sessions and 22 parallel sessions with 100 presentations, in which the main themes of the energy and environmental fields were addressed. In the introductory panel some of the themes that characterize the evolution of the European and Italian energy system have been debated, from the development and integration of renewable sources in the energy market to the role of gas, and the related geopolitical problems, to the contribution of technology for promote energy efficiency. The problems that have accompanied the development of the regulation of the energy markets of the various European countries in relation to the liberalization processes have been analyzed and debated, highlighting the work still to be done also in relation to the greater complexity of the energy systems in the perspective of the EU objectives to 2030. It has also been emphasized that the acceleration of innovation and electric penetration, while leading to important transformations in many consumer sectors, does not diminish the fundamental role of oil and gas. The presentations highlighted the existing commitment in the public transport sector to adapt to the increasingly challenging goals imposed at international, European and national level. At the same time, the role that traditional fuels will continue to play in highlighting their continuous qualitative improvements for environmental sustainability was highlighted. In the various concurrent sessions of the conference, in addition to the scientific contribution guaranteed by the presence of researchers from the most important universities and research institutions, an important contribution was offered by the energy  companies were fundamental for the success of the symposium.

The first edition of the international conference “AIEE Energy Symposium – Current and Future Challenges to Energy Security” was organized in Milan from 2 November to 2 December, in collaboration with the Bicocca University.

A two days event with the participation of over 200 participants, from 27 countries, experts, researchers, teachers, managers of the main Italian and foreign energy companies. In the various concurrent sessions of the conference, in addition to the scientific contribution guaranteed by the presence of researchers sent by the most important universities and research institutes in the world to present their papers, the companies contribution  was very important for the success of the symposium. The issues of particular interest were the gas market, with particular attention to the role of the Russian Federation, the electricity market, energy efficiency in the industrial and civil sectors, strategies to contain climate change, energy storage, the use of renewable sources, the environmental policies. Among the most debated geopolitical issues we recall the  important role of Turkey in the international context  for European energy supplies. The problem of climate change and policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions were also in the center of the debate. The KAPSARC Research Institute of Saudi Arabia (King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centers) organized a special session on “Renewables and Diversification in Energy-Producing Countries”. The event was organized in 5 plenary sessions and 24 parallel sessions with more than 100 presentations.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY POLICY AND STRATEGIES FOR EUROPE

14th IAEE European conference – October 28-31, 2014
LUISS University, Rome

The conference was a forum for the analysis of new developments and a new vision of the energy policy future scenario, trying to define energy priorities for the coming years and the action to be taken. It covered the themes of the great changes taking place in the energy sector in Europe and the related implications for policy. It treated all the current topics from the development of renewable sources, the field of fossil fuels to the energy efficiency and environmental issues. It ‘was the most important energy event in Italy in 2014. The program of the Conference was organized in 8 plenary sessions and 80 parallel sessions with 350 speakers and 500 participants from all over the world. The award ceremony of the best papers of the Conference was held at the Protomoteca Hall of the Capitol.

ENERGY CHALLENGE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

12th IAEE European Conference, September 9-12, 2012
University Ca’ Foscari, Venice

The conference organized by the AIEE in collaboration with the University Ca ‘Foscari and Fondazione ENI Enrico Mattei was an opportunity to discuss the main issues of energy policy and environmental policy of the moment, with many aspects related to the science, technology, economy and finance. It analized the evolution of the energy situation in Europe and worldwide and its future prospects. These issues were discussed by Eni, Enel, the Axpo, Sorgenia and many other speakers from the scientific and institutional bodies in different countries.

500 participants from around the world and 300 papers presented.
The conference was opened with a statement of the European Commission recalling the main objectives set by the EU for 2020 and those subsequently raised by the European Council to 2050.

Among the speakers: the Rector of the University of Venice, Carlo Carraro, the AIEE president, Carlo Andrea Bollino and President of IAEE, Lars Bergman that concluded the conference.

ENERGY MARKETS AND SUSTAINABILITY IN A LARGER EUROPE

9th IAEE European Conference  June 10-13, 2007

A IAEE European conference organized to provide space for discussion on energy issues related to the sustainability, security of supply, the opening of the European market, the development of renewable energy sources, liberalization of markets energy efficiency, market regulation, the development of biofuels, industrial policies and the Kyoto protocol. Four general sessions and fifty parallel sessions attended by 300 experts from over twenty countries.

WHITE & GREEN

October 13, 2004 – CNEL Conference Hall, Rome

The AIEE conference organized jointly with the European Commission for the presentation and discussion of the Project SAVE, entitled “White & Green”, a project study and analysis funded by the European Commission, on market mechanisms to support the energy efficiency and the renewable sources. The AIEE together with the University of Lund (Sweden) and Utrecht (Netherlands) have developed this project in 2003- 2004 with the aim to disseminate the results at a European level.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES AND LIGHTING

September 27-29, 2000 – Gran Hotel Vesuvio, Naples
Organized by the AIEE, ISIS, Van Holstejn En Kemnna and ISR University of Coimbra to present a SAVE Project (Specific Actions for Vigurous Energy Efficiency). A meeting between industry, institutions, international organizations and consumers to discuss energy efficiency. The presence of 120 speakers, 24 sessions and the organization of an exhibition of household appliances, products and last generation models.

NEW EQUILIBRIA IN THE ENERGY MARKETS:
THE ROLE OF REGIONS AND AREAS

22nd IAEE International Conference
Gran Hotel Parco dei Principi, Rome – June 9-12, 1999
A meeting to discuss the new relations and agreements between the industrialized regions of North Africa and the Middle East within the framework of European cooperation. Among the topics presented: the security of supply; as the new free markets of gas, oil and electricity can generate new equilibria in Europe and Asia; the impact of Kyoto on the various regions of the world.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES

Organized by the AIEE and ISIS under the SAVE program it discussed and debated issues related to energy consumption and improved energy efficiency of appliances, technological innovation, measures, policies and energy labeling.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY STANDARDS AND LABELS

May 20-21, 1996 – Hotel Parco dei Principi , Rome  
Organized by the AIEE and ISIS with the collaboration of the European Union Directorate General for Energy in projects SAVE, Synergy and UN-ECE Energy Efficiency 2000. The conference addressed issues relative to energy and environmental labeling of household appliances, energy policies and the measures taken by European countries to reach the targets for CO2 reduction set by the EU.

IAEE European Conference – seven sessions to review and discuss the evolution of the EU energy policy, energy strategies and the situation of the member countries with reference to geopolitical changes and new international relations.
